Government Teachers In Agra Forced To Clean Schools Due To Lack Of Sanitation Workers

During the last week of summer vacations, the government teachers in Agra were reportedly pushed under the circumstances to clean the school premises themselves. The sanitation workers apparently pulled off a ‘no show’, leaving the classrooms under unclean and unhygienic learning conditions. The educators had no choice but to take matter into their own hands.

Suman Kumari, the head teacher in primary school (boys) is deeply concerned about the cleanliness and spoke about the issue.

In my school there is no cleaner and classes will begin from July 1st. I had no option but to begin cleaning the school myself for the sake of students. There are many schools in Agra without cleaners and teachers are either cleaning the premise themselves or hiring private cleaners at their own expense.

Nidhi Srivastav, the only teacher in her school, has been cleaning the school premises since June 25th and is still struggling.

I unwillingly cleaned classrooms that were full of dust and waste materials such as plastic bottles and polythene bags. So far I have only been able to clean classrooms, after that I will focus on school premises.
