AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan Arrested By Delhi Police For Threatening Woman With Rape And Murder

AAP leader Amanatullah Khan was arrested by Delhi Police on Sunday morning on charges of threatening a woman with rape and murder.

The police said Khan is also accused of attempting to run over the woman with his car, reported The Times of India.

The 35-year-old woman filed a case against Khan on July 20 for allegedly threatening her with dire consequences for ‘politicising’ the issue of power cuts in the capital.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on July 9 when the woman had gone to Khan’s residence in South Delhi’s Batla House locality after a telephonic conversation with him to complain about poor electricity supply in the area, reported Zee News.

Though she was unable to meet the minister himself, a youth in the house threatened to have her raped and burnt alive if she continued with her political agenda. He  said he was just conveying the minister’s threats, reported The Hindu.

She had initially filed an FIR against ‘persons unknown’ on July 9 and given the police commissioner a written complaint a day later.

However, Khan denies the charges, saying that he wasn’t even in Delhi, but in Meerut, when the alleged incident took place.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal claims that the charges against Khan are trumped up by the BJP. Several AAP members and supportes gathered outside the Jamia Nagar police station to protest Khan’s arrest.

At a press conference on Saturday, AAP played a video which claims to show the woman talking to a person about how the SHO of the Jamia Nagar police station asked her to add allegations of the rape and murder threat to the FIR.
