While cricketing rivalries in the subcontinent are known to raise tempers, at times the expression of emotions against the other side seems to cross the line, like it just did in Bangladesh — where a picture of pacer Taskin Ahmed holding a severed head of Indian batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni is doing the rounds on social media.
The picture where Dhoni’s severed head is shown in the fast bowler’s hand is probably Bangladesh’s way of celebrating their entry in the Asia Cup final where they will face India on March 6. It is another shocking instance of Bangladeshi fans becoming a bit too aggressive, after an image of bowler Mustafizur Rahman shaving the heads of Indian batsmen surfaced during an India-Bangladesh ODI series last year.
Although a no-holds barred support for one’s favourite team is understandable, such graphic depictions are just plain ridiculous. After all, it’s just a game.
