Oh, lovely wine! If you are one to nurse your drink and sip away your sorrows with a glass of red wine, and worrying you may be causing damage to your health, this one’s for you. Sometimes we love science. According to a study, drinking red wine could be doing us a lot of good. Yes, finally!
According to The Economic Times, a recent study by the University of California, San Diego, shows that consuming wine can actually help cure Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS, a condition that causes infertility in women of childbearing age. You heard that right! Apparently, the beautiful red solution contains a polyphenol called resveratrol, which can correct hormone levels.
PCOS or a condition where your ovaries develop tiny cysts, causes the body to produce high levels of male hormones, like testosterone, which can result in weight gain, irregular periods, acne and unwanted hair.
In the study, 30 women with polycystic ovaries were able to correct their hormone levels by 23.1% by consumption of substances like peanuts, blackberries, red wine and chocolate which contain high levels of resveratrol.
But the goodness of resveratrol does not stop there. Studies also suggest that it can help in body’s ability to use insulin, and reduce the risk of developing diabetes. A supplement of the substance could help in lowering the risks of hormonal issues in women with PCOS.
