14 Unique Guinness World Records You Won’t Believe Belong To Indians

Indians are second to none in a lot of fields, be it technology, medicine, sports or business. You name it, and we’ve done it. The same goes for holding unique Guinness World Records. Here are some amazing, and a few bizarre records proudly held by Indians:

1. World’s longest turban

This 60-year-old man from Patiala, Punjab, Avtar Singh Mauni, holds the record for the longest turban in the world. The turban weighs 100 pounds and stretches to as long as 645 metres. Wondering how long it takes him to get ready every morning? Six hours!

2. World’s shortest women

23-year-old Jyoti Amge is the world’s smallest woman, measuring 61.95 centimetres (2 feet). She has earlier held the Guinness World Record for being the tiniest teenager alive.

3. World’s longest moustache

Jaipur resident Ram Singh Chauhan, 58, holds the title of the world’s largest moustache. 14 feet long, Chauhan has been growing it for 32 odd years now!

4. Most number of Mahatma Gandhi’s at one place!

These Kolkata kids dressed as Mahatma Gandhi hold the record for the largest gathering dressed as the Father of the Nation. As many as 484 kids from a charity for single mothers and kids, Training Resource and Care for Kids, walked as part of a peace march to make the record.

5. World’s biggest chapati

World’s largest chapati was made by Shree Jalarm Mandir Jirnodhar Samitee organisation at Jalaram Temple, Jamnagar, and weighed around 63.99 kg.

6. Most number of self portraits clicked together

In a selfie-obsessed world, this record is also proudly held by Indians. Students and staff from the Federal Institute of Science and Technology hold the record for taking the largest number of selfies or self-portraits – 1, 000 frames in a minute- in their campus in Angamaly, near Kochi.

7. Most expensive wedding

With Indian’s spending lavishly on weddings, this one doesn’t come as a surprise. Steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal’s daughter’s wedding holds the record for the most expensive wedding. Vanisha Mittal married investment banker Amit Bhatia in 2004 where guests were entertained in full Bollywood style by superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The total money spent on the wedding was a whopping USD 60 million.

8. World’s largest biryani

The hard work of 60 chefs went into making world’s largest biryani which needed as many as 12,000 kg rice and vegetables.

9. Typing fastest using only nose

Khurshid Hussain holds the bizarre record of being the fastest person while typing only with his nose. While setting the record, Hussain typed a 103-character sentence in seconds. He was asked to write, “Guinness World Records has challenged me to type this sentence using my nose in the fastest time,” and he nailed it!

10. Farthest distance limbo skating under cars

5-year-old wonder Shreeya Rakesh Deshpande is the proud skater who limbo skated the farthest distance under cars. Skating 48.1 meters under 27 cars in just 23 seconds, this Kolhapur girl is truly a wonder!

11. World’s largest condom mosaic

Lucknow, India, holds the record for displaying world’s largest condom mosaic made out of 4,418 condom packs. The record was made by UPSACS, INDEX, IIM Lucknow and HLFPPT.

12. Most hugs given in an hour

One Jayasimha Ravirala broke the record for the maximum number of hugs given. In an hour, he hugged as many as 2,436 people in Tekkali, Andhra Pradesh.

13. World’s shortest cow

Meet six-year old Manikyam, the tiniest cow in the world. At 61.5cm, this Kerala cow is even shorter than some of the dogs.

14. Longest solo dance marathon

Kalamandalam Hemaletha went on to dance for 123 hours and 15 minutes at the Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy.
