At their event in San Francisco on September 29, Google launched a range of devices including the Chromecast Dongle, Chromecast Audio, Pixel C Tablet, but the highlight of the event was the unveiling of Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X.Google’s brand new Nexus devices have been anticipated for a long time and they come with a ton of features. Here’s everything you need to know about them:
Huawei Nexus 6P
Google has trusted Huawei this time to make their flagship phablet this year and has named it the Nexus 6P.
It has a 5.7 – inch AMOLED Screen which comes with a WQHD Resolution (2560×1440) and a PPI of 518. The device is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and is running the latest version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This is the first Nexus device which is completely made of metal and feels premium in the hand. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa-Core processor and Adreno 430 GPU this phone will be a beast to handle all the tasks.
Equipped with a 12.3MP rear camera with 1.55µm this phone can shoot upto 4K videos at 30 FPS. The front camera is a powerful 8MP shooter with a f/2.4 aperture and will be amazing for clicking selfies. The phone has 3GB RAM and a decent sized battery of 3450 mAh. It comes in 3 storage options 32, 64, 128GB and 3 colour variants as well (Aluminium, Graphite, Frost).
Google has finally added a Fingerprint Sensor to both the devices and have named it as ‘ Nexus Imprint ‘. These sensors have been placed at the back of the phone for the ease of accessibility. Another major update has been the installation of USB Type C ports in both devices which replaces the old ports and also enables fast charging for the 6P.
LG Nexus 5X
The much anticipated successor to the famous LG Nexus 5 is finally here and it does pack quite a punch.
It has a 5.2 – inch LCD Screen which comes with a FHD Resolution (1920×1080) and a PPI of 423. The device is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and is running the latest version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This device is made of plastic and is frankly a letdown as compared to the metallic 6P. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Hexa-Core processor and Adreno 418 GPU this phone will easily be able to handle your daily tasks.
Equipped with a 12.3MP rear camera with 1.55µm this phone can shoot upto 4K videos at 30 FPS. The front camera is a 5MP shooter with a f/2.0 aperture. The phone has 2GB RAM and a decent sized battery of 2700 mAh. It comes in 2 storage options 16, 32GB and 3 colour variants as well (Carbon, Quartz, Ice).
As mentioned above, this phone also has the Nexus Imprint and a USB Type C port.
Pricing
According to the Google Store the Nexus 5X will be priced at ₹31,900 for the 16GB variant and ₹35,900 for the 32GB one.
Nexus 6P will start at ₹39,999 for the 32GB variant, ₹42,999 for the 64GB and ₹47,999 for the 128GB one.
Although the devices feel premium, a lot of consumers have complained about the odd camera hump at the back of the phone and some have even gone to the extent of calling it “ugly”. Others are of the opinion that it’s not that bad and the phone looks beautiful. One thing is for certain that the case manufacturers will have to figure out a way to adjust the cutout for the fingerprint sensor while building the case.
The new Nexus series does look promising and with the price being on a moderate scale, it might just be a success after all.
