This Unbelievable Device Tricks Your Tastebuds & Makes Bland, Boring Food Taste Delicious

Losing weight has been my life-long dream. I have been waiting for the day when I’ll be able to look at myself in the mirror and say, “OMG! Look at that hot bod.” The reason why that hasn’t happened yet — I love food too much. I get so excited when a bacon pizza sings a slice slice baby to me and I certainly donut seem to have any control on my sweet tooth. But, this news holds the potential to change the life of every person whose life looks just like mine.

A prototype of a device called Taste Buddy has been designed by scientists from City University in London, that tricks the tongue into tasting boring ‘healthy’ food as delicious treats.

Whaaat? Am I in the future or am I in the future?

According to reports, once you place Taste Buddy in your mouth, it emits thermal and electric signals that stimulate the taste buds and while the initial prototype is restricted to emulate sweet or salty tastes, future versions have the potential to completely alter our diets.

And you know what that means? You can feel like you’re having your favourite chocolate brownie sundae while having boiled veggies for breakfast.

Professor Adrian Cheok, the leader of the team that created the device told Daily Mail.

What started out as a fun engineering experiment has now led to something much more exciting with the potential to have a positive social impact. The Taste Buddy could eventually help save lives, by allowing people to switch to healthier food choices. Many children hate the taste of vegetables. So I knew that when I became an engineer, I wanted to make a device that could allow children to eat vegetables that taste like chocolate.

The prototype consists of a two centimetre (0.8 inch) wide tab that sits on the tongue and is wired to a bulky processor. It warms up very rapidly and stimulates specific taste receptors that react to heat to enhance sweetness. It uses a weak electric current to target other taste buds that detect salty flavours.

The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair — held from March 15 to 18 at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham — would be the first time when the general public would get a chance to try the device out.

I won’t be able to make it but it is safe to say that this is one of the best inventions, about to come alive. Cannot. Even. Wait.
