There’s A Kick-Ass American Beer Called Bengali & We Can’t Wait To Try It

Grace Bains

Along with the daalbhaat and machhi, alcohol happens to be one of the other things that Bengalis love. If there was to be a politically charged and intellectually inclined beer, we’d probably call it Bengali, and Sixpoint, a famous brewery in New York, did just that! They named an Indian Pale Ale Bengali and the reason behind it is pretty interesting.

When it was launched back in 2004, it was actually called Bengali Tiger. The reason being that the beautiful orange merging with the white reminded the creators of the Royal Bengal Tiger. However, in 2014, the name was shortened to just Bengali.

Though, we’re really not complaining.

If you’re wondering about what this brew tastes like, here’s beer lover Henry Lawson’s review of the Bengali on Instagram:

“The Bengali tiger beer smells like a small Parisian stall selling fresh fruit and flowers in the middle of a pine forest. It tastes grassier than the contents of that jar on my brother’s bedside table with some caramel, fruit and resin blended in for added complexity. These fresh and balanced flavours are displayed through the carbonation, bitterness and mouthfeel of any good IPA. It’s a majestic creature!”

For the uninformed, it is believed that the quality of Indian Pale Ale or IPA determines how good or bad the brand is and well, Bengali’s ratings as an IPA are soaring, which means that Sixpoint is a great brand.

All said and done, Indians always leave a mark wherever they go and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Bengali is a popular beer back in New York.
