Here’s Why Muhammad Ali’s Hollywood Star Is On The Wall & Not On The Walk Of Fame

I’m sure you’ve heard of the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Even if you haven’t be there, you must’ve seen photos of the 5-pointed stars on the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard in California.

There are over 2,500 of these stars and they honour the achievements in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of actors, musicians, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, among others. 

Michael Jackson has a Star on the Walk Of Fame.

Believe it or not, Donald Trump also has a Star on the Walk Of Shame Fame.

And of course, Muhammad Ali also has a Star. He was no actor but you’ve got to admit, he was one hell of an entertainer!

In 2002, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce that confers the Stars decided that boxing was a form of “live performance” and therefore Ali’s career could be considered as a contribution to the entertainment industry.

But here’s the thing. Unlike everyone else, Ali’s Star was not on the floor. It was on the wall. The only one on the wall.

When Ali was granted the star in 2002, the then 59-year-old said that he did not want his name to be walked on by “people who have no respect for me”.

“I bear the name of our Beloved Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him), and it is impossible that I allow people to trample over his name,” said Ali.
