Bazinga! Popular Sitcom ‘Big Bang Theory’ Gets A Shout Out Before Physics Nobel Prize Announcement

As the iconic ‘scientific’ sitcom, The Big Bang Theory came to an end, it rewarded the viewers and its characters–Sheldon and Amy–with a Nobel Prize.

And now, life has imitated art in the truest sense of the word, as this year’s announcement of Nobel in physics started with a shoutout to the show.

Academy member Ulf Danielsson quoted the lyrics from the show’s theme song while presenting the award to a Canadian-American scientist and two Swiss scientists.

The three scientists won the physics prize for their discovery of a planet outside of our solar system, and for their work in understanding the evolution of the universe from the Big Bang.

Goran Hanson, the secretary general of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, also talked about what the show had achieved by bringing the ‘world of science to laptops and living rooms around the world.’
