At the age of heroines, Sridevi dared to be an actor. She went on to become one of of Bollywood’s biggest actors in the 80s and the 90s. It’s hard to say goodbye to the iconic Sridevi.
Sridevi passed away on Saturday following a cardiac arrest. She was 54.
Her brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor has confirmed the news. Speaking to the Indian Express, he said:
“Yes, it is true that Sridevi passed away. I just landed here, I was in Dubai and now I am flying back to Dubai. It happened roughly around 11.00-11.30. I don’t know more details yet.”
The actor was in Dubai along with her family to attend Mohit Marwah’s wedding. This was one of her last posts on Instagram.
Sridevi started her career as a child actor and played her first adult role at just 13. She worked in several Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films before starting her career in Bollywood. Himmatwala (1983) made her an overnight sensation and she never looked back since. In 2013, she was awarded Padma Shri for her contribution to Indian cinema.
From the innocent Reshmi in Sadma…
to the sensuous Miss Hawa Hawaii from Mr. India,
from ChaalBaaz’s Anju and Manju
to English Vinglish’s Shashi,
Sridevi has given us many unforgettable moments for us to remember her by.
Goodbye Sridevi. You will be missed.
