Shabana Azmi Explains Why It’s Okay For Marriages To Fall Apart & We Couldn’t Agree More

Bollywood has recently been struck by a wave of break-ups and divorces. While some of these are rumours and definitely untrue, a fair share of celebrities truly have parted ways. Joining this list are Adhuna and Farhan Akhtar, who announced their separation early this year.

Much as it makes us sad to see this awesome couple split, it is accompanied by the realisation that there is no point harping for something that clearly isn’t working. Shedding some light on that matter is Shabana Azmi, Farhan’s stepmother, who in an interview to DNA rightly said:

“Marriages are not just falling apart in the film industry, but also in many sections of society. Expectations from marriage are changing. When I asked Zoya, she said, ‘Because today women can, they have a choice and they exercise it. Marriage is not a one-way street. Both partners have to adjust to each other. The concept of made-in-heaven is defunct’.”

Certainly, what Shabana Azmi says makes a lot of sense. Women have come a long way from being silent doormats to being vocal and independent. And it shows, more evidently than in anything else in the ways marriages are perceived in recent times.

Again, Azmi makes a strong statement that indicates that the relationship of these two kickass women do not revolve around a man.
