After a long wait, the Tamil superstar finally made an announcement about his political plunge on Sunday at Sri Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai.
According to a report filed by ANI, the 67-year-old actor confirmed that he will be contesting in all seats in the next state assembly elections by forming a new party.
Rajinikanth while addressing the gathering said,
“My political entry is definite. This is a long-pending decision. I will feel guilty if I don’t take this decision at least now. In next assembly elections, I will form a party and will contest all constituencies in Tamil Nadu.”
Talking about the current scenario of politics, the actor not only called for a complete change in the democratic system but also urged for a more transparent system.
“Democracy is in a bad shape right now, and all other states have been making fun of us (Tamil Nadu). In the name of democracy, politicians are robbing us of our own money on our own land. We need to bring a change from the base. It is not an easy task, but can be made possible through the support of the people and blessings of the almighty.”
Celebrations in Chennai began soon after his announcement.
The news of him joining politics also dominated top trends on Twitter.
Let’s have a look at other reactions.
While actors like N. T. Rama Rao and Jayalalithaa have made a huge mark in Tamil politics, it remains to be seen how Rajinikanth will fare.
