The popular Hollywood actor Leonardo Dicaprio is well-known for his inclination towards environmental causes.
The Revenant star announced his largest-ever offering of grants on Wednesday, pledging a whopping $15.6 million to help save the world and battle environment- related issues.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s foundation said in a statement that the money donated will be used ”for wildlife and habitat conservation, to aide in the defense of indigenous rights, and to support innovative grass roots efforts aimed at combating climate change and solving complex environmental issues.”
In a statement to mirror.co.uk, he said,
“Today we are greatly increasing our level of vital grant making and strategic partnerships to help solve some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.”
The report further suggests that the actor has appointed a new CEO, Terry Tamminen to oversee the foundation. Speaking on the development, he added,
“Terry is a proven leader, with the experience and passion necessary to work alongside [executive director] Justin [Winters] and the entire LDF team to further strengthen and expand the impact of our global efforts.”
DiCaprio has time and again been vocal about his concern for environmental issues, including when he won the Oscar for best actor for his performance in “The Revenant.”
During his acceptance speech he said, “Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”
