Travel is never really about places seen but about the journey, about remembered smiles, challenges met and adventures shared. The journey becomes all the more magical and meaningful if you get to live it with your loved one. Setting out on one such voyage is actor Kalki Koechlin, who has embarked on an epic journey through the beautiful locales of the Northeast, with her father, biker and photographer, Joel Koechlin.

The father-daughter duo travelled 4,000 kilometres, on their Royal Enfield Himalayan, through the picturesque Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

Speaking about the journey to ScoopWhoop, Kalki says,

“The Northeast has always intrigued me and it was quite an experience to explore the terrain on two wheels. It was not one of the comfortable, relaxing holidays but every muscle ache was worth it.”

From beer making, navigating across a rope bridge, getting their bikes across the river on a ferry, to joining an impromptu football game and managing a treacherous mountain path in sudden low visibility, check out a few snippets from their incredible journey here:

We do know Kalki to be a bit of an adventure junkie and a bike aficianado, and it seems this thrill for adventure and non conformist approach to life, runs in her genes.

Kalki tells us,

“My father has an infallible spirit and zest for life and I get the adventure in my DNA from him. After one exceptionally tough day’s ride, Dad said, ‘I would rather be here in bad weather, stranded without any fuel in my bike than back home comfortable in my sofa.’ He has always been my inspiration to do more in life and seek life-changing experiences- he is my favourite travel partner.”

Kalki’s Great Escape is slated to air in mid-September, on FOX Life.
