Few months ago, news was doing the rounds that Priyanka Chopra had quoted a whopping Rs 15 crore for signing up as a brand ambassador for Assam. Though there was no official confirmation on that figure back then. Chopra has finally been named as the brand ambassador of Assam tourism.

Confirming the same, the Assam Government on Sunday at a press meet revealed that they have inked a two year deal with Priyanka Chopra for “free of cost”. “The agreement does not have any cost. We’ll only have to pay her during shooting and also for print advertisements as she will do so by leaving aside other work”, Assam Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Making her first appearance for the state, the 34-year old actress will be visiting  Guwahati on December 24 to take part at the International Tour Operators Conclave. “With her, we’ll go global with countries like the US, the UK, Japan and Germany among others. We’ll hold promotional activities there. As she is the best, her association will definitely help Assam in attracting more national as well as global tourists”, the minister said.

The offer was earlier made to legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar before finalizing the ‘Desi Girl’ as the face of state tourism. “We approached Sachin Tendulkar, but he refused. After that, we went to 4-5 more celebrities. Finally, we zeroed in on Priyanka Chopra”, added Sarma.

Priyanka is not the first celebrity who will be seen promoting tourism campaign. Earlier, Bollywood actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan also featured in ‘Khusbhoo Gujarat Ki’ and ‘Incredible India‘ advertisements respectively.
