This is the trailer of Kaabil:

This is also really all there is to the film. Really. The only difference is that the hero’s no Daredevil as we initially believed.

Rohan Bhatnagar (Hrithik Roshan) is a blind voice artist and he meets blind pianist Supriya (Yami Gautam). Love blooms and after booking a flat they’re married.

But there’s Amit Shelar (Rohit Roy trying to be sleazy) and his friend who rape Supriya because she’s blind and pretty. The legal system is manipulated to ensure the rapists aren’t brought to justice because one of them is the brother of a big politician (Ronit Roy pretending to be Maharashtrian). So Rohan sets off to get revenge.

This is the first half. The second half is how he does it.

But this is a Sanjay Gupta film, who has given us hits like Kaante, Musafir and Shootout at Wadala. So there are plenty of crass dialogues (because that’s what how you know the bad guys are bad guys), a lot of blood spilt (it is a revenge film) and a token item number (a murdered version of Saara Zamana) though it has nothing to do with the plot.

The only reason you might go to see this film is because of Hrithik Roshan, who plays a blind version of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan from Agneepath. In the first half he’s happy till the assault and the second half he’s angry which means there’s a lot of this:

However, Roshan does prove that he can take a punch and much more to make a choreographed action scene seem realistic. Yami Gautam plays the cute, lovable bride who goes from being happy to suffering silently. Narendra Jha stands out as the police officer Chaube.

Hrithik Roshan hasn’t been going overboard in pushing Kaabil in the battle of blockbusters with Raees this Republic Day weekend. It may have been a wise move. Go for this film only if you’re a hardcore Hrithik fan (he even pushes his fashion label in the film for your benefit), otherwise you’re better off watching the Republic Day parade on loop. It’s more entertaining and suspenseful for sure.
