War is ugly.

There are centuries-old legacies of the great wars we’ve all read about in history. Stories of bravery and honour ring loud through the passages of time even today. We all know the names and the horrors associated with them. But to imagine it is one thing, to see it is another.

Cinema has recreated some of the bloodiest battles to show us the dire reality of the destructive eras bygone, buried in violence and bloodshed. We’re told the stories of fearless soldiers who fought on till the end despite all odds.

Some survived the anarchy and explosions to tell tales of victory or defeat while most were immortalised for their sacrifices. There’s evidence of how common lives were torn apart. This is what the films listed here have captured with detailed truth.

This is the incredible story of army medic Desmond T. Doss, the man who refused weapons even for self-defence and won a Medal of Honor for saving 75 men during the Battle of Okinawa without firing a single shot.

A shell-shocked sniper, who served in Iraq for years, saves many lives with his point-on accurate shooting on the battlefield, but returns home unable to forget the horrors he witnessed. He’s a legend to the people and a terrified victim in his head.

A daring group of Jewish soldiers conspires to wipe out the Nazi leaders in France and put an end to their government. A woman scheming to take down a cruel German officer who murdered her family is on the same mission.
