The First Ever Marvel Comic Was Auctioned For ₹8,97,40,750. It Cost 10 Cents Back In 1939

The first comic book produced by Marvel, the famous superhero publisher behind Spider-Man, X-Men and The Avengers, was auctioned-off on Thursday, November 21. 


It fetched a staggering amount of $1.25 million or ₹89,740,750 approximately.

Published in 1939 by Timely Comics, Marvel Comics #1 is said to be a historic comic book according to Heritage Auctions, where the bid was placed.

Despite getting this amount, Marvel’s most expensive comic book in history remains the first issue of “Action Comics”, which was published in 1938 and was sold for $3.2 million in 2014.

Speaking about the sale of the second-most expensive comic book, Ed Jaster, auction house senior vice president, said: 

Without question, this is the granddaddy of all Marvel Comics, without which we would not have the characters and stories we enjoy in today’s comics and feature films. 

Considered the ‘Big Bang’ of all Marvel comics, this amount is justified considering all the modern-day characters were developed from this comic book and later adapted to movies by the legendary director and screenwriter Stan Lee.
