While speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Pooja Bhatt, not only opened up about her decision to quit drinking but has also revealed what led to her self-realization during the whole process.

“Luckily, I pulled the plug before it became impossible for me to stop. I’m in the pink of health except for the weight I put on because I’m now a stressful producer. But being the daughter of an alcoholic makes you four times more susceptible to becoming one,” she said to the tabloid.

But what led to her transformation was a conversation she had with her father. ” My dad said ‘I love you, kid’ to which she retorted ‘I love you too, pops’. And he signed off the chat saying ‘If you love me then love yourself because I live in you’. And even though  he didn’t mention about my drinking problem, it was this message that got me wondering and I decided to take a stand,” said the filmmaker.

Pooja Bhatt for whom celebrations always meant opening a bottle of bubbly, considers her sister Alia Bhatt’s achievement of bagging the Best Actress Award at Filmfare as her own victory. “I messaged Alia saying normally this would have been an excuse for me to crack open a case of champagne first thing in the morning. But this time I celebrated by not drinking,” said the filmmaker.

Great start Pooja. Hope your story inspires many out there waiting to kick the habit.
