Horror movies are scary but in some cases, the events that took place on the horror movie sets were more terrifying than the films that were produced. A number of terrifying incidents took place on the set of some of the most successful horror movies of all time, during filming or shortly afterwards. Whether these incidents were fatal accidents, cruel twists of fate or some sort of evil curse still remains debatable.
1. The Possession (2012)
During the shoot, light bulbs were exploding, props caught fire and chilly breezes passed through closed sets.
While filming, the crew encountered certain strange occurrences. The scariest incident took place when the storage facility, where all the props were kept, caught fire and burned to the ground. Even the Dybbuk box relic, used in the movie was completely destroyed. Later, the cast and crew refused to replace the Dybbuk box since they believed that the object was cursed.

A dead body washed up on shore, close to the set, even before the shooting started. The cast and crew were pretty shaken and shocked by this incident but they decided to go ahead with the project. Coincidentally, it just so happens that this is the exact time of the murders depicted in the film.
6. The Exorcist (1973)
The entire set burnt down and one of the actors died unexpectedly, few days after finishing his scenes.

The entire set burnt down and it had to be rebuilt again. The director of this film got a priest along with him, to bless the area but that didn’t seem to work. When the movie was released, a number of audience members suffered from a cardiac arrest and died on the spot.
7. The Omen (1976)
Several crew members died in an airplane crash.
While shooting, the lead actor found out his son had committed suicide. A crew member almost lost his life in a car accident while driving to the set. Even the scriptwriter, almost died in an airplane crash, when it was hit by lightning. Later, an airplane crash did take place, killing several members of the crew.
8. The Innkeepers (2011)
Crew members complained about having vague, vivid dreams and they constantly felt uneasy.

According to the director, TVs turned on and off without any explanation and many crew members complained about having vague, vivid dreams while filming at the Yankee Pedlar Inn; a real life haunted hotel. Ti West, the director also claims that the lead actress believed a spirit was sharing her room.

Crew members spotted claw marks on windows that had three fingers.
During filming, the crew spotted eerie marks on windows in areas which hadn’t been dusted or cleaned for years. They spotted claw marks that always had three fingers, just like the demon in the movie. One of the actors also suffered a serious head injury in the same hallway he would shoot his death scene.
10. Poltergeist (1982)
The actress who plays the older sister was murdered by her ex-boyfriend just one day after the movie premiered.
Heather O’Rourke, the star of the movie died at the age of 12. She suffered a cardiac arrest while she was working on the later installments of the film. Dominique Dunne, the actress who plays the older sister was also killed by her ex-boyfriend just one day after the movie was released.
11. Rosemary’s Baby (1968)
Before filming, the producer received an anonymous letter that predicted his death from a painful ailment.
One fine day, the producer received an anonymous letter stating he was going to die from a long and painful ailment. Soon enough, he collapsed and was in need of medical emergency. But the music composer wasn’t lucky enough. He died after a nasty fall, suffering a hematoma of the brain.
12. The Crow (1994)
Brandon Lee, Bruce Lee’s son was killed on the sets after a prop gun malfunction.
While shooting a scene, Brandon Lee, son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee was killed after a prop gun malfunctioned. On the first day of shooting, a crew member was severely burnt and a construction worker accidentally impaled his hand on a screwdriver.
13. Ghost of Goodnight Lane (2014)
The shooting was constantly interrupted by flickering lights and disembodied voices.
While shooting, the crew repeatedly saw apparitions. One crew member was reportedly assaulted by a ghostly figure.
