In the early 2000s, we entered a new era. We knew life had changed forever when we started to constantly hear that familiar sound… of our parents complaining. Remixes had arrived! We assumed it was just a phase. But it stood the test of time and stuck to Bollywood and the music industry like the Kanta Laga girl’s tattoo to her arm.
I had made peace with the industry’s incessant need to remix my parents’ favourites. But one day Humma Humma (Ok Janu) happened! It was going okay. The song seemed fine. And then bam! Badshah’s weird AF rap came in like a boss’s email on a Sunday.
Little did I know that this was just the beginning of a relentless trend of Honey Singh or Badshah Texas Chainsaw Massacring a perfectly good song and ruining our beloved memories with it. I now knew exactly how my parents felt when they first heard Keh Doon Tumhe and felt their childhood getting butchered in front of their eyes.
Soon the Pandora’s box of 90s music was opened and it went from Aankh Mare to frikkin’ Maahi Ve. Come on, Bollywood. Maahi Ve (Kaantey) was literally yesterday.
Before we get to a point where we’re in 2037 listening to a remixed London Thumakda all I want to say is, Stop! Please.
