While Bollywood movies may revolve around the lead, more often than not, it’s the loyal friend(s) helping the lead achieve their dreams, fulfill their love story, and take the limelight.
Best friends like these, without whose support, the hero or heroine would still be struggling to fulfill their epic story:
1. Abbas (Aparshakti Khurana) in Luka Chuppi
In Bollywood’s latest romantic comedy, Abbas is the real MVP. He is the one who always comes up with a novel solution for Guddu and Rashmi’s problems, poses as Rashmi’s brother, and even gets hit for his role in the charade. Despite it all, his loyalty and love for his friend never waver.
2. MC Sher (Siddhant Chaturvedi) and Moeen (Vijay Varma) in Gully Boy
MC Sher and Moeen may have opposing roles to play in Murad’s journey to success, but without them, he’d still be a struggling rapper. While MC Sher guided him on the path to professional success, Moeen supported him through his struggles. Murad’s talent may be his own, but it was honed under the love, guidance, and support of two very able friends.
3. Vijaylaxmi (Lisa Haydon) in Queen
Vijaylaxmi came into Rani’s life at a point when she was heartbroken and confused about the direction her life was taking. And Vijaylaxmi’s support and lifestyle choices proved to be a great learning point for Rani, helping her gain confidence over her own life choices. In fact, even for the next leg of her trip (in Amsterdam), it was Vijaylaxmi who showed her the way. Like she says, “Vijay nai toh kya hua, Vijaylaxmi toh hai.“
4. Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal) in Tanu Weds Manu series
He may have cautioned Manu about the choices he made, but he never backed out from supporting him, no matter how grave the situation became. From impersonating a doctor to almost getting killed, Pappi Bhaisaab continued to stand by his side, with his trademark humor and staunchly loyal self.
5. Rama (Swati Semwal) in Bareilly Ki Barfi
Yes, Bitti was the star of her small town and the movie, of course. But it was Rama who was with her from the start, secretly watching movies, helping her write love letters, and even accompanying her on a prospective blind date. And when she ended up liking the man Bitti liked, she was sure to make her intentions clear to Bitti. Childhood BFFs FTW!
6. Munna (Rohit Chaudhary) and Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkummar Rao) in Bareilly Ki Barfi
Bareilly Ki Barfi clearly nailed the brief about longtime best friends. Pritam Vidrohi altered his whole personality to help Chirag win the love of his life. And later, he even concocted a false situation, simply to help Chirag become a better man. Munna, on the other hand, was the loyal sidekick, willing to go to any length to help Chirag out.
7. Choocha (Varun Sharma) in Fukrey series
He is quirky, has money-minting dreams and visions, and loves his best friend Hunny more than anything else. Choocha was the man whose tricks helped Hunny come up with money-making schemes. But while Hunny took the limelight, Choocha was content to support Hunny in all his endeavors, and stay on the sidelines, cheering him on.
8. Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Aditi was an amazing friend to both Naina and Bunny. She was the one who ensured that her fledgling friendship with Naina didn’t end with a single trip, but rather blossomed into a deep bond. Similarly, even when Bunny ended up distancing himself from his friends, she made sure to stay in touch and bring him back to his circle of close friends.
9. Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana) in Stree
As Bittu, he was the perfect combination of cynicism and affability, whose loyalty towards his friends was never under question. Even though he acted as the voice of caution against Vicky’s love interest, he continued to support him in the search of their friend Jana and in ridding the town from an evil spirit. He may have varied opinions, but his support was unparallel.
10. Shonty (Gaurav Pandey) and Poplu (Sahil Vaid) in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania
As Humpty undertakes the path to win over his girlfriend’s father, Shonty and Poplu stand as his faithful friends. Whether it is getting beaten up, staying in unfavorable circumstances, or being emotional sounding boards, Shonty and Poplu never stop helping Humpty.
Clearly, in reel life and real life, there are certain friends without whose help, support, and sense of humor, life would be a dull place indeed. Know of any other friends who went beyond their way to help turn the hero’s dream to realities? Let us know in the comments section below
