We can never get over reminiscing the good old television days of the 90s for their sheer simplicity and intriguing scripts. There was no loud makeup, no over the top drama and absolutely no cacophonous background music.

Seems like Doordarshan has finally acknowledged our love for the 90s television serials. The oldest broadcaster in India has decided to make a tremendous comeback in a digital form.

A report by the Daily Mail says that very soon, viewers will be able to watch Doordarshan content on ‘on-demand’ platforms like Hotstar, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming!

Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati told the Daily Mail:

Some material from the archives has been put on our official website for sale. The next step is to be able to syndicate some of the popular content and make them available through on-demand platforms like Hotstar, Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Recently, iconic television programs such as Malgudi Days, Circus, Bharat Ek Khoj ran again on DD and the broadcaster saw a rise in the number of viewers, assuring the channel that people still very much love the popular TV programs of the 90s.

Along with making the content available online, DD is also planning to revamp itself on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

Vempati further said:

We have set up a separate social media team that has been asked to individually reply to those writing to us on Facebook or Twitter. Live updates of events, matches or shows are now being done that has made a lot of difference.

The channel is prepping to make a comeback with a new logo that will replace the famous ‘DD Eye’. While the current logo does evoke a sense of nostalgia, with the new logo, DD is vying to entice the younger generation which didn’t grow up watching Doordarshan.

Isn’t this just the best news ever?
