William Butler Yeats, one of the most influential Irish poets of the 20th century, styled his earlier poems in a slow and lyrical form taking after Percy Bysshe Shelley and artists of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood. But as his opinions changed, his style became more realistic, often with references to Irish lore.He was at the forefront of the Irish Literary Revival and indeed, Ireland was going through trying times then, while Yeats struggled to explore his own Irish roots.
