Randy Betz is a medical sales consultant by profession, but his love for animals is second to none. His family includes many pets, including 3 dozen reptiles and he often helps people hatch their tortoise eggs.
One of the tortoises that Betz came across, had some type of a deformity. The tortoise, called Helix, was unable to walk because of this deformity, and was about to be euthanised. He reportedly said,
I’m around spine deformity all the time, and this little guy has some sort of turtle-related spina bifida (a type of spinal birth defect).
Randy’s plan to help him out saved little Helix’s life – he took the wheels off a mini-skateboard and used them to help the tortoise walk. Betz explained,
“I took some glue, some superglue, and I glued it right on the back end of it. Helix, slow and steady, learnt to walk.
