Through a wonderful twist of fate, Season 4 of Game of Thrones and the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections will start almost neck to neck. We’re sure most of you will agree that the politics and characters of the fictional land of Westeros find their parallels in Indian democracy.
So obviously, we combined the two. Here are some Game of Thrones characters who’ll find their counterparts in this year’s election.
And remember, take it all with a pinch of salt.
1. Cersei Lannister – Sonia Gandhi
2. Joffrey Baratheon – Rahul Gandhi
Thrust into the limelight at a young age. Inexperienced, unpopular and widely considered unfit to be King.
3. Robert Baratheon – Manmohan Singh
Once widely respected, is now a shadow of his former self. Looks on helplessly as friends and family run the country into the ground.
4. Olenna Redwyne – Sheila Dikshit
Shrewd and world-wise. Is usually a formidable opponent, but has been rendered helpless due to forces beyond her control. Down, but no out.
5. Petyr Baelish – P. Chidambaram
The cunning “Master of the Coin.”A clever tactician who can wiggle his way out of tight spots with his honeyed words. Resorts to economic bungling to keep the country afloat.
6. Jamie Lannister – Robert Vadra
Came to power solely by the merit of the family he belongs to. Very arrogant. Makes frequent errors of judgement.
7. Grand Maester Pycelle – Pranab Mukherjee
Is supposed to provide wise counsel but has been reduced to a mere figurehead. Is widely perceived to be partial to the ruling family.
8. Walder Frey – Digvijay Singh
Egotistical and grumpy. Is very blunt and seldom thinks before saying anything.
9. Stannis Baratheon – Narendra Modi
One of the main challengers to the throne. Is blinded by thirst for power and will do anything it takes to achieve it.
10. Davos Seaworth – L.K Advani
A trusted advisor who finds himself increasingly irrelevant in a rapidly changing country. Has now been sidelined.
11. Daenerys Targaryen – Arvind Kejriwal
An outside challenger with little experience who has been gathering power, seeking to claim the throne. Is the champion of the common man. Or at least thinks so.
12. Jorah Mormont – Yogendra Yadav
Closest ally and friend of the new challenger. Goes along with everything he/she does.
13. Robb Stark – Varun Gandhi
Brash, angry and out for blood. Hates the ruling family. Goofs up frequently because he acts without thinking.
14. Catelyn Stark – Menaka Gandhi
Has had a long standing grudge against the family in power. Has to keep her brash son in check.
We’re sorry. We just couldn’t place him. Tyrion Lannister is just too awesome. Also, our apologies if we missed out on a few of your favourite characters. If you’d like to cast Tyrion and the others, put your suggestions in the comments below.
