No one can deny that the 90s was a golden age of cartoons. We all have fond memories of watching cartoons like Mickey Mouse, Aladdin, Chip and Dale, The Tom and Jerry Show, and ofcourse, Donald Duck among many others. Ah, I miss them!

But frankly, I just can’t get over the ill-tempered Donald Duck!

And his nephews, Louie, Huey and Dewey – those playful but rebellious and destructive monsters.

And ofcourse, Uncle $crooge – the richest duck in the world!

Trivia: No one knows exactly how much money Scrooge has. But in 2012, The Billfold calculated the amount of money is in Scrooge McDuck’s money bin and came up with $31.2 billion.

Ok, sorry for losing track of the story that I was initially going to share with you, but here goes…

Ever wondered from where Louie, Huey and Dewey came from? Who their parents were? Read on to know the answer.

In 1934, Walt Disney introduced the world to Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse’s lovable but ill-tempered friend. After three years, comic artist Al Taliaferro created three nephews for Donald: Huey, Dewey and Louie. In the trio’s comic debut, Donald received a letter from his cousin Della, saying:

Donald welcomed his nephews with open arms, but what about their parents? Who were they? As mentioned in the letter, their dear old dad was sent to the hospital after a firework exploded under his chair (a firework placed there by his own sons: Huey, Dewey, and Louie).

This was the last anyone really heard about their dad.

Take a look at their family tree:

Drawing from what little information is available, the trio’s dad is nothing more than an obscured duck with no first name and a big question mark over his head.

It is pretty clear from the family tree that Della Duck is obviously their mother who is occasionally referred to as Dumbella Duck or Thelma Duck. According to the comic, The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, Della is Donald Duck’s twin sister.

As shown in the Dutch comic 80 is prachtig, which was made in honour of Donald Duck’s 80th anniversary, Della Duck is one of the first female pilots who eventually became an astronaut, leaving her children with her brother just before she left for a space trip.

Phew, mystery solved!
